In the wake of Hurricane Irma’s devastating impact on our hometown of Immokalee, Florida, the Taste of Immokalee College Advisory Board sends this letter of encouragement to our community members.

Dear Immokalee,

No one knows resiliency and determination more than those in our community. From a very young age, those of us involved with Taste of Immokalee have watched our hard working parents and community members overcome one hardship after another. This experience is the inspiration behind our creation of Taste of Immokalee. It is also the reason why we believe our community will overcome the effects of Hurricane Irma and will soon be whole again.

We are so proud to be a part of our resilient community. Together we can weather any storm, you have taught us that. We are touched by the kindness that is overpowering Irma’s aftermath:

• We see the love and support of community members coming together as a beacon of hope in the midst of the destruction brought to our homes
• We see the perseverance in the eyes of our neighbors
• We hear the laughter of children that continues to echo through our town
• We see the beauty of the helping hands of people near and far who are reaching out in love during this moment of need

As we continue to rebuild our home, we would like to thank you all for the example you continue to set not only for us, but also for the world to see. You are persons of strength, of endurance, and you will continue to overcome.

Together we know that we will rebuild what has always been, and will continue to be, our home. We are so proud of your fight and continue to pray for your safety and healing, and especially for those who have lost their homes. Through unity, love and support from one another, there is nothing that we cannot overcome.
